The Blue Knot Foundation is seeking supervisors experienced in the field of complex trauma to deliver trauma-informed supervision to a wide range of organisations across different sectors.

The Role

This is a contract position for group supervision facilitation and could complement the work of professionals in private practice or who work part time in a trauma service.

Blue Knot trauma-informed supervision focuses on applying the principles of trauma-informed practice to the supervision space.  The aim of the sessions is to provide supervisees with an opportunity to debrief, recognise and respond to vicarious trauma, and explore tips and strategies which support optimal communication practices and interpersonal connections with people they support.

Priority Skill Sets

We are looking for supervisors with excellent group facilitation skills, confidence, and enthusiasm. You need to have a solid grounding in understanding complex trauma and skill sets in one, or more, of the following areas which represent the different sectors who we provide supervision for:

  1. clinical/ counselling experience working within domestic and family violence services (at least 5 years)
  2. experienced complex trauma clinicians (at least 5 years) who implement best practice approaches
  3. working in organisational settings which support traumatised people
  4. working with people with complex trauma histories in the legal setting
  5. working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  6. working with people who use alcohol and other drugs
  7. working within homelessness services
  8. working with people with different abilities / disability
  9. working in leadership roles (with at least 5 years leadership experience)
  10. working in human services, health or other services that provide services to traumatised people

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in counselling/psychotherapy/psychology/social work/mental health/psychiatry or comparable
  • Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience with direct client interactions e.g. counselling, therapy, supervision
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply the principles of trauma-informed practice in a supervisory capacity and/or expertise in working clinically with complex trauma clients if providing clinical supervision to complex trauma practitioners
  • Experience in providing group supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to reflect on own skills and knowledge base and have their own clinical supervisor
  • Compliance with all relevant occupational, health and safety laws
  • Take all reasonable steps to safeguard their own safety and the safety of any person(s) who may be affected by their work in relation to the Services
  • A high level of interpersonal communication skills

Highly regarded, but not essential

  • Lived experience of complex trauma
